What is Brow Feathering?

Brow feathering is a semi-permanent cosmetic tattooing procedure (also known as micro-blading). It is a non-surgical procedure that works on the dermal layer of the skin, imparting pigment in fine, hair-like brush strokes. It is most commonly used to shape and fill out thin or sparse brows, or to add definition to those who tire of applying makeup constantly. There are also practical benefits for those with health conditions, such as poor eyesight and alopecia. Semi-permanent means your eyebrows will slowly fade over time, though this will differ from person to person. This fading allows you to change not only the shape but the colour of your brows in the future.

Ombre & Powder Brow Enhancement

Ombre & powder brow enhancement is also a semi-permanent cosmetic tattoo procedure but using a machine to implant pigment into the skin rather than a hand tool. An ombre brow is darker at the tail and along the bottom of the brow then it starts to soften as it moves to the top and front of the brow. This technique is favoured by clients who like a soft look.

A powder brow is a bolder looking brow, most client who wear makeup like the powder brow look. The powder brow has the same strength of colour from the tail to almost the front of the brow but the front stays soft.

How does it work?

If you decide to proceed after your initial consultation, we will measure and pencil your eyebrows in place. Once you’re 100% happy with the shape, colour and symmetry of your brows, we will then start the treatment. The first treatment requires about an hour and a half, where I will apply the pigment to the skin with whichever technique you decide. Your skin will require 30-40 days healing time, after which time there will be shorter second treatment to enhance your brows and make any tweaks necessary. The success of the procedure is roughly 50% pigment and 50% healing. We all heal differently and after treatment care is of the utmost importance. You will be looked after the entire way, and given all the information and aftercare you require.

Aftercare and Healing

Whenever the skin's surface, the epidermis, is injured the result is compromised barrier intergity. This may be form a cut, burn or puncher, such as applying a tattoo. The first phase of the healing process is to recreate the barrier integrity. In tattooing there could be lymph fluid and droplets of blood so aftercare is very important. Please follow these steps when taking care of your brows, you will get a much better healed result if they're taken care of properly.

After your procedure Helena will give you aftercare information and an aftercare ointment to use.

Day 1 of treatment- Clean tattoo before bed with warm soapy water, pat tattoo dry and dont rub. Apply aftercare ointment using a cotton tip, clean end for each brow.

Showers need to be short and the shower needs to remain steam free until the tattoo has healed. When you get out of the shower pat tattooed area dry with a paper towel or air dry.

Use a clean pillow case the same night of tattoo treatment. Remember you've just had a tattoo, infections can be unpleasant and can effect your healed result.

Day 2- Clean the same way morning and night for 3 days and apply aftercare ointment after every clean.

Day 3 and until scabbing is over- Apply aftercare when tattoo feels dry and tight. Never pick the tattoo.

While healing no strenuous exercise for 1 week. Walking, pilates, youga and weights are ok. Anything that is high cardio and makes you sweat is not allowed.

Always wash your hands before touching the tattoo.

No swimming in pools, lakes, or ocean, spas for two weeks.

No saunas or baths for two weeks.

There will be flaking and scabbing which is completely normal, do not pick, let the scab come away on its own.

The colour will change during the healing process, please be patient.

If you develop excessive redness, itchiness, pimple-like spots in or around the tattooed area you may have an infection. If this dies occur please send me clear photos of the area, and discontinue using the aftercare provided.

Always use SPF on your brows once healed, using any products that lighten and brighten the skin (retinol, vitamin a and vitamin c) please keep a finger width away from the tattoo.

Ongoing Maintenence

Since cosmetic brow techniques are a semi-permanent procedure, you will need to come back in a 12-18 months time (sometimes less, depending on skin type and lifestyle) to enhance the colour and get the treatment re-done to keep it all looking fresh. This will only require one touch-up procedure. If it has been over two years since your last treatment you may need two treatments again.
